Custom Machining in Stainless Steel, Brass, and Aluminum
Ethylene Atlantic machines metal components to customer drawings and specifications, alongside our plastic machining services.
When a design calls for a metal component, the material is only part of the specification. Dimensions, tolerances, and the way the part fits into an assembly also need to be clearly defined. Custom machining provides a way to produce that component around the requirements of your design.
Ethylene Atlantic’s capabilities include machining stainless steel, brass, and aluminum. We work from customer blueprints to manufacture custom parts, giving manufacturers a resource for both metal and plastic machining needs.
What Is Metal Machining?
Metal machining removes material from a workpiece to create a specified shape and set of dimensions. The drawing establishes what the finished component needs to be, including its geometry, openings, and any features that must align with adjoining parts.
At Ethylene Atlantic, metal machining is part of our custom machining capabilities. Each project is defined by the customer’s requirements. The material, part design, quantity, and inspection needs provide the basis for reviewing the work and determining how it should be produced.

Custom metal machining can be useful when an available standard part does not meet the design requirements. A component may need a particular overall size, a different hole location, or dimensions that match an existing assembly. These requirements should be shown in the drawing so the finished part can be evaluated against them.
Manufacturers may request custom machining at different points in a project. The following are reasons to submit a metal component for review:
-
New product development: A design requires a metal part with defined dimensions and material specifications.
-
Equipment builds: A component needs to fit the layout and mating features of a particular assembly.
-
Replacement needs: A customer has a drawing that defines the metal component to be replaced.
-
Design revisions: An existing specification has changed, requiring a new size, feature, or material.
-
Recurring production: The same component is needed for subsequent manufacturing orders.
The intended use helps explain which requirements matter most. Include that context with your drawing, particularly when certain dimensions control fit or when the component must meet additional customer specifications.
We machine stainless steel, brass, and aluminum, as listed in our material capabilities. Identify the required metal and its specific grade or alloy when submitting a project. Naming the material family alone may not fully define what your design requires.
The drawing and material specification should agree. If a purchasing document lists a different material from the blueprint, resolve that difference before placing the order. Clear information gives everyone reviewing the project the same definition of the finished component.

Preparing Your Drawing for Review
Provide the current drawing revision, including dimensions, tolerances, and any surface finish requirements. Make critical mating dimensions easy to identify, and include notes that explain requirements not evident from the geometry alone.
Your request should also state the order quantity and requested delivery date. If you expect additional orders, share the anticipated schedule. This gives our team a fuller picture of the work being requested.
Reviewing Production and Quality Needs
The part requirements guide the machining work. Rather than applying one tolerance or process assumption to every metal component, the specific drawing should be reviewed with the selected material and geometry in mind.
Our quality practices include documented processes and reports available upon request. Identify any required inspection records or other documentation during the quote stage so those needs can be considered with the machining requirements.

Planning Repeat Orders
For ongoing purchasing needs, Ethylene Atlantic offers blanket orders, JIT delivery options, and custom packaging. Discuss your expected quantities and delivery requirements when planning recurring work.
Keep the approved drawing revision consistent across your order documents. When a design changes, clearly identify the updated revision so the next request reflects the part you intend to purchase.
